What a week, eh? Regardless of how you feel about politics, there is an undeniable energy that permeates election week. As I’ve noted before, I try not to get too explicit about my political feelings on this blog, but I will say that I was swept up in the excitement of being at the polls, helping vote down two really horrible amendments in MN, and hearing/seeing/engaging in a lot of important discussions about the difference between electoral politics and actual social struggle. Things aren’t anywhere close to perfect, but as long as we live in the system we do, I think Tuesday’s results are pretty darn good (with a few exceptions).
Okay! So, what else is on my brain?: Thanksgiving dinner ideas (I actually get to plan the menu this year, so I’m Pinterest-ing like crazy!), random diet questions, and workouts to off-set the over abundance of awesome holiday food. Get it.
1. Raw Pecan Pie Bites
Would these not make a perfect Thanksgiving dessert? (Yes!).
2. Obama finally says ‘”climate change”
So if you saw the president’s speech on Tuesday, you may have noticed that he, for the first time, actually talked about the warming of the climate. This article from Grist reminds us that this should not be permission to sit back and let him finally ‘take care of things.’ Like any movement, it requires…well….a movement. (That means us!): “Starting today, let’s do all in our power, let’s come together as a movement, to help our re-elected President rise to the demands of history, our wounded planet and the needs of human society. We literally can’t accept anything less.”
3. Against the Grain
I only discovered the Detoxinista website a few months ago, but I’m so glad I did. She is a wealth of knowledge, and I find myself just typing things into her search engine to see if she’s posted about it. I happened to be wondering about the “to grain or not to grain” debate, and wanted to see if she wrote about. Sure enough, she had a super thorough post. Obvs, I love learning about different views on diet and nutrition.
What do you think about grains?
4. Sauerkraut and Sweet Potato Casserole
I love Alexia’s twist on a traditional sweet potato casserole. I think it would make a perfect side dish for Thanksgiving dinner. Let’s be real—casserole made with sauerkraut is a weee bit better for you than one made with marshmallows. (You should poke around the rest of Alexia’s blog too…She’s got great posts on yoga!)
5. ZWOW #42
Can you believe that Zuzanna has already made 42 (amazing, kick-butt) workouts on her new channel?! It feels like not so long ago that I wrote a post giving an overview of her first 10 videos. This is one of the first she’s posted in a while that doesn’t involve any equipment. I love her workouts with weights, but I know for some folks, the whole point of at-home Youtube trainers is to get exercise without having to have fancy gym stuff. So here’s an all over body workout using just your own body-weight as resistance:
What are your thoughts on the election? Are you grain-free? Do you get to help plan your Thanksgiving dinner (or, for my Canadian friends, did you help plan it?). Do you like at-home workouts with weights or without?
