A few weeks ago, I was delighted to come home to discover that Artisana had sent me a box full of their products to sample and review on the blog. I had tried their coconut butter in the past and absolutely loved it, so I was super excited to see what else they had to offer.
I was also stoked to learn more about their company. Artisana is devoted to quality, organic products. In fact, in many cases, Artisana is able to buy their ingredients from local organic farmers. They are also one of the few companies that offers living food, raw nut butters. And those of you with allergies or food intolerances will be happy to know that their factory is free of gluten, peanuts, and soy. And they also have a commitment to fair labor practices; their mission statement reads: “We support small, Organic, family farms. The farmers from which we buy grow their produce in harmony with the land. They pledge to treat and to compensate their workers fairly.” Yay, Artisana!
I received a packet of sample-size nut butters, including walnut, almond, pecan, cashew, and macadamia. I devoured each of them (and may or may not have licked the wrappers). Somehow Artisana manages to produce the creamiest, richest nut butters I’ve ever tried.
My absolute favorite was the walnut butter. I swear it tasted like I was eating a walnut cookie. One reason this might be the case is because their walnut butter actually also includes cashews. This doesn’t bother me, but for purists out there, the mixing of nuts might be a problem.
I also got a full-size jar of walnut butter and cacao coconut butter (more on that in a second).
They also included a variety of coconut products, including coconut oil, coconut butter, and their famous cacao coconut butter, Cacao Bliss. It was my first time trying Cacao Bliss, and I can now understand what all the fuss is about. It’s rich and sweet, and has a really lovely melt-in-your-mouth quality. One downside–if you’re avoiding agave nectar, you’ll have to avoid this, as that’s one of the ingredients (Organic Raw Coconut Butter, Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Organic Agave Syrup, Organic Cacao, Organic Cacao Butter). I’m on the fence about agave, but I did take comfort in the fact that this was high-quality, organic agave. I also thought their coconut oil had a creamier quality than most other coconut oils I’ve used.
One of the greatest things about this sample fun pack that I received was that I got to play around with a ton of different ways to use the nut and coconut butters. They would all be wonderful snacks on their own—-(and that’s exactly what I did with the almond butter packet…just dipped my spoon in for an afternoon snack)—-but they are also great add-ons. For example, I used the walnut butter to top my breakfast bake one morning:
I also made a batch of Walnut Butter shortbread cookies with a Cacao Bliss frosting center. I actually made these for my best friend’s birthday, and she said they were delicious!:
Overall, in terms of taste, ethics, and health-factors, I am confident saying that Artisana nut and coconut butters are the best on the market. The only downside of Artisana products is that they are kind of pricey. This, of course, makes sense. You get what you pay for, and they are providing a really high-quality product.
But guess what? You just might get yourself some of these products to try for free! Artisana graciously offered to send one lucky winner a full size jar of their Cacao Bliss!
