Happy Monday! How was your weekend? I had a truly fantastic weekend, full of bike rides, runs around the lake, grilling, games, and just a tiny bit of work. A great start to June, if I do say so myself. :)
I like posting smoothie recipes on Monday, because there is no better way to start your work week than by drinking a cup full of greens. That being said, it’s kind of nice that you don’t taste spinach in this smoothie, because although I love a good salad, it’s not necessarily the thing I want waking up my palette first thing in the AM.
Instead of spinach, you’ll taste the perfectly tart pop of grapefruit, swirled about with sweet frozen berries, rounded off with the hearty creaminess of nutritious almond milk. Tempting, eh?
As you’re reminded daily from my blog banner, I have already posted a (pretty darn good) grapefruit smoothie recipe, The Cold-Buster. It’s a delicious grapefruit smoothie made with peaches, but, to my dismay, it doesn’t include my go-to smoothie staple: spinach. Of course, this is probably because I made The Cold-Buster when I was sick, and my head was not in the right place (the right place being, “spinach goes in everything. period.”).
So I went back to work to create grapefruit smoothie 2.0. Just as delicious, but with even more nutritional powerhouses: antioxidant-packed berries, and our favorite glorious green.
Berry Grapefruit Green Smoothie
[all measurements are approximate; switch it up according to your preferences!]
1/4 c frozen berries
2 T protein powder (I used RAW Garden of Life)
1/3 c almond milk
2 ice cubes
1/2 grapefruit (peeled)
1/2-1 c spinach (as much as you can pack in there!)
pinch stevia (optional)
Blend all ingredients in a blender or magic bullet (or magic bullet knock-off, comme moi). Pour into fancy glass (optional). Drink up!
There is something so refreshing about a tart, juicy grapefruit. I’ve been making this smoothie at least once a week since the weather got warm. I hope you love it as much as I do!
