Friday Five!

Happy Friday! I hope you have been enjoying a beautiful week! The weather has been gorgeous here, and I’ve spent my spring break doing a little work, but also sharing lovely visits with friends, taking walks, protesting banks, and pleasure reading. #sPrInGbReAk! ;)

1. Irish Soda Bread

Yeah! It’s St. Patty’s Day week! Do you know that I’ve never had Irish soda bread? I think I’m definitely going to have to make Karina’s recipe. I love her blog, but she doesn’t always have a vegan option, so I was thrilled to see that she noted that eggs could be subbed for any egg replacer here. Do you like Irish soda bread?

2. Nutritional Yeast

I know nutritional yeast tastes amazing. And I know it’s really good for you. But why it’s good for you? I was actually never quite sure. When folks unfamiliar with these delightful yellow flakes would inquire about why I thought they were so great, I never had a solid answer. Fortunately, One Green Planet provides a list of health benefits associated with the “nooch” (as it’s lovingly known by some). They also have links to some great nooch-filled recipes!

3. Two-Ingredient Avocado Pudding

There were tons of green-themed recipes all over the health blogosphere this week, but I think I was most excited about Ashley’s two ingredient avocado pudding. Just avocado and banana. I think it sounds perfect and I can’t wait to try it!

4.Kohlrabi

also green!

Seeing this article  in the New York Times about kohlrabi got me SUPER STOKED for farmer’s market season! Here in Minneapolis/St. Paul, kohlarbi is a regional staple, and it seems all the farmers grow it. The vegetable is “a member of the brassica family, those nutrient-dense cabbages (as well as kales, brussels sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower) whose phytochemicals are highly regarded for their antioxidant properties.” I’ve actually never tried it, but I’m officially announcing that this will be the summer of kohlarbi! #blogaccountability!

5. The Pogues, duh

Every St. Patty’s Day week, The Pogues get a lot of play in my home. I love this band all year, but nothing is more theme-appropriate than good Irish drinkin’ songs. Enjoy one of my favorites from Shane MacGowan and pals.

Have a great weekend! What will you do to celebrate the luck o’ the Irish?
