Cleanse Day 1 + Apple&Butternut Squash Soup Recipe

Hello! I ended up leaving Chicago (the last stop of my travels) a day early, which meant I got to start my cleanse a day earlier than expected. As I explained, my posts throughout the duration of the cleanse will be an overview of what I’m eating, and if there’s a worthwhile recipe, I’ll certainly give you the details!

Here’s what yesterday looked like:

8AM: hot water with lemon

8:30AM: 6 oz green juice (made with kale, lemon, spinach, cucumber, ginger, apple)

i heart green juice!

9:30AM: Bikram Yoga, 90 min

1pm: 3/4 c brown rice, 1 c spinach, 1 c mashed butternut squash w/ balsamic reduction. Mike and I dined at French Meadow, a great restaurant in Minneapolis; we like doing brunch out sometimes while I’m cleansing since dinner dates are usually more difficult.

5PM (too late for a snack, actually): handful of almonds

8PM: Apple & Butternut Squash Soup.

This soup is largely inspired by this recipe from Whole Living (which has tons of great detox-friendly recipes in this month’s issue), but it’s not as orange as the original recipe for two reasons. 1) I am too lazy to peel my apples (and, in all fairness, I don’t have a peeler!). 2) I think spinach goes in everything, so I added spinach too. I have a hunch that the original recipe may be a bit more tasty, but my version is yummy and a bit more nutritious. : )

My supplements: kelp, probiotic, multivitamin, Ovega-3.

Detox aids: dry brushing, light exercise, hot/cold plunge (this is just going from hot to cold water in the shower)

Detox side effects: WEIRD, intense dreams; tired early in the night; restless sleep  (<–these are common during week 1, but by week 2, i usually have great sleep and TONS of energy.)

Goals for today: More protein! Snack, if necessary, earlier and more substantial.

    So excited about these cleanse updates! I am doing something a little different this year for my detox (which I am going to write about soon), so it is fun to see the different kinds of things folks are doing this cleansing time of year.

    Also, how are you liking the Omega?

      oo, i look forward to hearing about what you’re doing! the Ovega is fine? I honestly haven’t noticed any huge difference since taking it, but my partner (a vegetarian) swears by it. i will say it’s easy to swallow and doesn’t taste fishy!

      Wow! Binya, I just realized you were asking me about my JUICER not the ovega-3 supplement. That makes a lot more sense.

      I LOVE the Omega! Compared to my old one (cetrifugal), it’s just AMAZING (it’s masticating). I get TONS of juice and it stays fresh way longer. love love love it! what kind do you have?
